Bowed Wing Psaltery #2Previous Image | Gallery | Next Image |
|
Original design, loosely based on historic originals. It is maple, salvaged Douglas fir, and with salvaged black walnut soundhole and trim. The head carving is tagua nut. This was my second modern version of an ancient instrument. It appears to be a standard 11th to 16th century wing psaltery, and it can be played as such, but it is set up to be bowed, across the top posts, as you would a standard bowed psaltery. Unlike the bowed psaltery, which is chromatic, the bowed wing psaltery is diatonic. It is two octaves in the C-major scale. Sold
