Pre-1990 Dulcimers
The Ram

1976-San José: The Ram was my second animal-head carving. A friend who made jewelry had given me a few pieces of antique ivory, and I used two pieces to make the ram's horns. A couple of my earliest dulcimers had carved ivory details on them. I never use any ivory now, substituting tagua nut (vegatable ivory) for detail carvings like horns, teeth, etc.
